Poster - Hypocrisy of Pro Life Beliefs

Photo Manipulation - Newsworthy Phase 3 - Hypocrisy of Pro Life Beliefs
Project Statement: For this project we needed to research a current event, find images representing this event, and then create a simplified poster reflecting our view. The poster is to be made on Adobe Photoshop and use three images in total.

Research: At the time of making this Roe v. Wade was recently overturned by the Supreme Court. As someone who is pro choice, I wanted to make a poster reflecting my beliefs on the issue. My belief is that by restricting abortion, women will only start having at home and unsafe abortions putting their lives at risk.

Design Process: For my poster, I wanted to display the hypocrisy of pro-life beliefs. I wanted to pose the question "Is immaculate conception really immaculate?". To do this I wanted to make a scene with the Virgin Mary. I wanted to show the dangers of restricting abortion by having blood come from her vagina. For the background, I wanted it to be apocalyptic. I went with an image of an abandoned building and edited it with really high contrast to further this theme.

Design Solution: Overall, I am pleased with how my poster turned out. While the poster is very controversial, I think that is expected with the topic. I also think it conveys my beliefs very well. The black and white background contrast the red blood splatter bringing that to the foreground. The vertical buildings also help lead the eye upwards to the Virgin Mary.
